Hey Reader,

New Year, New-sletter.

A new sense of newness fills the new air as we look ahead to imagine where our efforts can take us. It's resolution season!

I'm an insanely heavy sleeper, which means I sleep peacefully through each night, but also shut off my alarm without remembering. My resolution this year was to "wake up earlier," but I needed to go a little deeper and come up with a specific mechanism to achieve that goal. So I got a new alarm clock that doesn't stop blaring until I take a picture of my sink. 🙂

Specificity is exactly what we help clients with in brand strategy.

You might be familiar with S.M.A.R.T. goals (Specific, Measurable, Attainable, Relevant, Time-bound). Much of our work focuses on that first part: Specific. We call it defining the target.

You can't hit a target that's not defined. 🎯

Compare "I want my brand to look better" to "The brand needs to embody the jester spirit, appeal to single young adults, and portray a homemade aesthetic." The second provides a much clearer target of where to focus your efforts. That's why our Brand Blueprint has 60+ slides dedicated to defining the target; it allows clients to make brand decisions with confidence and allows us to craft a visual identity purpose-built to achieve their goals.

So be like The Good Kids and get strategic with your resolutions this year: Take some time to define your target, then ready, aim, fire!
